Imported carpets are high quality carpets produced with traditional methods, especially in Iran and Turkey, and are usually imported from abroad. Imported rugs are usually characterized by the use of silk and wool yarns and are woven with Persian or Turkish knotting techniques. Hand-woven carpets were produced thousands of years ago by nomadic societies living in Central Asia. One of the earliest examples is the Pazyryk Carpet, dated to the 2-3rd century BC. Known as one of the most important crafts of the Scythians, these carpets were used for a wide variety of purposes in daily life. Their uses ranged from spreads to tent covers, from sacks to cushion surfaces. The carpet in question is exhibited in the St. Petersburg-Ermitage Museum. The “Gördes” knot technique, also called “Turkish Knot”, was used in weaving the carpet.
